MEMORANDUM IN SUPPORT

A.914 by Assemblyman McEneny

AN ACT to amend the alcohol beverage control law, in relation to prohibiting
the sale of beer for off-premise consumption on Sunday during certain hours

The New York Association of Convenience Stores represents nearly 5,000 neighborhood mini marts and convenience stores licensed by the State Liquor Authority to sell beer for off-premise consumption.

Sundays are one of the busiest days of the week for our stores.  An adult customer who visits our store at 10 o'clock Sunday morning for snacks, ice, and other items for the family cookout he's having that afternoon can't buy beer. That's inconvenient.

Since we're in the business of convenience, we would love to have the opportunity to responsibly sell beer on Sunday mornings, to the extent permitted by local ABC boards and within the bounds of the Alcoholic Beverage Control law.
