Connecticut Retailers Face NY-Style Pain

Among the tax hikes recommended by Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy in his proposed budget are:

- Increase state sales tax from 6% to 6.35%

- Increase cigarette tax by 40 cents to $3.40 per pack

- Increase snuff tax by 60 cents to $1.00 per ounce

- Increase OTP tax by 30% to 50%

- Increase state gasoline excise tax from 25¢ per gal to 28¢

- Increase state diesel excise tax from 39.60¢ per gal to 41.60¢

- Floor stocks tax on these motor fuel tax increases

- New sales tax on car washes
