Grassroots Campaign for Tax Fairness

The Tax Fairness Association and NYACS are working together to mount a grassroots effort to convince Governor Paterson that New York State can no longer afford to pass up collecting taxes on Native American sales of cigarettes and gas to non-Indian customers, as is required by existing state law.
These taxes would provide $1.1 billion annually in new revenue to the State of New York. Yet, instead of collecting these taxes, the Paterson administration has enacted dozens of tax increases, fee increases, and other measures that are costing our businesses and customers billions more
This grassroots campaign, from now through mid-June, will focus on collecting petition signatures urging the Governor to honor his oath of office and enforce the law that is on the books and collect the taxes.
The Tax Fairness Association, spearheaded by NYACS Board member Dan Shanahan of Wilson Farms Inc., and supported by NYACS and many individual convenience retailers and suppliers, has prepared a variety of tools you can use to participate. From posters to cards to petitions, pick and choose the ones that will work best in your store(s), and order a supply of them directly from the printer.
Thank you for your commitment to putting an end to the State's double standard of taxing and fee-ing our stores and our customers while ignoring its duty to enforce tax collection laws fairly.
